Alyssa and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day

What an awful 12 hours. Seriously.

I shattered my brand new phone this morning.

My heart is breaking all over again for the same damn reasons.

The dog just peed on the living room carpet.

I feel so terribly alone, unloved, unwanted.

The cry might come tonight. It doesn't happen much anymore. I've gotten better at suppressing the depression. But I'm probably overdue.

I apologize everyone. A depressed person is not someone easy to love.

Thank goodness midnight is a fresh start.

24

Another year come and gone. One of the best though, I'll say that. I've grown exponentially. I've discovered so many things about myself, those around me, and the world.

A few years ago, spending most of my birthday alone would have sent me into a tailspin of hopeless anxiety. Today, I happily kept myself company, relaxed, and only felt depressed for a few moments while I sipped my wine in the pool with no one to talk to but my dog. I focused the day on me, intentionally. I suppose most people would feel like, duh, it's your birthday. But it's been such a long long time since I dedicated one whole day to solely myself, I thought today would be the perfect opportunity to take advantage of.

I recommend it, you guys. Take a day here and there. Don't worry about how much crappy food you're eating, how little exercise you're getting. Don't think about how you shouldn't be spending that money or that something is a waste of your time. Buy the shoes. Eat the donut. Play the game.

Every now and then, choose an entire day to shirk all responsibility and soak up every last bit of selfishness you can muster. It's good for the mental health. It's what I did today. And it really was the perfect gift.

Game Review: Pokemon Go

Everything in my soul right now wants to write about the depth of my despair when it comes to modern day humanity but I'm on day 3 in a 6 day stretch at work and my brain capacity is running on low. It's not that I don't have the time - because I do. But this subject is important to me and I don't want to mess up how I write about it.

So instead, I digress, and we shall discuss the craze that is sweeping the world right now.

Pokemon.

I've been playing since day one. To be honest, I had no idea the game was even coming out, I hadn't heard anything about it, but it showed up all over Facebook one day and I HAD to have it.

I'm not as far along as some other people. I have coworkers that have Pokemon in the 1000's and they have full time jobs and kids! But I haven't ventured out very far and I haven't had anyone interested in going with me so I've been on my own.

The game itself is insanely wonderful. I love the fact that it gets people outside, off their feet, and exploring. I don't like the fact that people are being idiots about it and not paying enough attention to their surroundings and getting hurt.

The servers are a pain in the hiney. It takes me at least a half a dozen, if not more, tries to get the game booted up and running on my phone. And even then, it doesn't always work.

And it eats battery like crazy. Like, I lose 40% in under an hour.

I'd give it a solid 4/5 due to server issues, but gosh how I'm getting flashbacks to being a kid. I can still out-talk the subject with almost anyone. Can't help it; I was obsessed.

Happy hunting! But be safe!

Project: Side Table Makeover

Ah rummage sales. One of my favorite past times of summer. Dangerous? Absolutely. But so much fun.

My favorite find of the year so far is this table.

When I first saw it, I actually thought it was already in pretty decent shape. There were a few scratches, one little divot out of the front, but besides that, I thought it had character and already looked a little "antique".

However, I still opted to give it a little bit of a makeover. I finally invested in an orbital sander and did a little research regarding gel stain. Note: if your project is relatively small, like this one, you reeeeally don't need much of the stain, especially if your project is in pretty decent shape to start.

Sand everything down a layer, apply the stain, and voila.

A nice looking side table for only $15 (plus supplies).

Aye Carumba (sp?)

Ha!

Hello.

Do you all remember me?

I'm still here!

No, but in all seriousness, adulthood is hard. Being married, having the puppy, taking care of the house, going on vacations, being with family - I'm learning that it's a lot to balance! I have along work stretch coming up, so I might still be a little on the slow side, but I'll try to kick it up again.

Needless to say, I've still been trying to keep up with my hobbies. Luke and I painted the garage floor, I re-stained a rummage sale table, I'm finding new recipes, I'm spending time by the pool, I'm walking the dog and trying to exercise some, I still write, and most recently, I downloaded Pokemon Go!

A quick review:

Minus the malfunctioning loads that occur with every third use of the app, it is seriously so much fun. I feel like I don't really have to describe it as it's ALL OVER the place right now, but if you haven't already tried it and you're a twenty something millennial child like me, I highly recommend it.

That's all I have for today, as it's been a looooong weekend, but check out some of my other pages as I'll throw on a couple updates.

Peace.
