MEET MY PUPPY!
This is my little girl, Charley. She is a miniature goldendoodle and she is one of the best decisions Luke and I have ever made.
The plan for weeks and weeks was to get a cockapoo, the same kind of dog I grew up with. We had the breeder picked out, a cheaper price negotiated out, and simply needed to pick out the date to go get her. Then I made the (somewhat asinine) decision to look at newspaper classifieds for puppies and found a breeder from the UP selling goldendoodles for a third of the price I thought it would cost to get one.
We made the trek a couple hours up north and met her at a gas station. She had four choices for us, but this little girl jumped up on my chest and licked my face...we had to have her.
Since she's been home (today is day six), we've discovered a variety of things.
She doesn't pee in the house! I don't know if we got lucky or if she's exceptionally smart, but we haven't had a single accident inside. We're attempting to bell train her and she's already ringing it at the back door, going outside to do her business, then returning for her treat.
We went for our first walk together today. It went reasonably well. Someone wanted to run and pounce the whole time, but she didn't pull and she didn't lag behind. It got cut a little shorter than I would have liked due to some miserable cold rain.
Last night, she did tear up a rug by the back door...thankfully it was a crappy one I put down solely for that purpose, but that was the first mischief we've really had.
She's spectacularly sweet. She cuddles, always wanting to be close. She licks a ton, bites too, but she's very friendly. We encountered a thunderstorm a couple nights ago and she was quiet all night, save for a few barks at the loud thunder cracks.
Oh, night one and two we did get in a little trouble. Luke didn't put her kennel together correctly, so night one she knocked the door down and slept in the living room...Luke found her at 4 in the morning when he got up to take her potty. The second night we thought we would try to put her behind a gate instead, hopefully giving her a little more space and less anxiety. But then someone cried like crazy until the gate got knocked down too. Since then, Charley sleeps wherever she wants. But like I said...still no accidents!
It's only been a week, but Luke and I have already decided it would be spectacularly weird without her here.
