I finished this book today, seeing as I had absolutely nothing else of any value to do. I have a tendency to blaze through books pretty quick, especially when they are absolutely fabulous.
Sadly, in this case, Rule came in right around average. I gave it 3/5 stars on Goodreads.
Having an obsession with damaged characters finding love, I've found many books that are better than this one. While both characters are a little bit tortured (I actually liked Shaw's character better than Rule's...I never like the girl character better), there wasn't as much angst from me with the story. The one thing that I did really like was Shaw's long-time love for him and him not realizing it; most of the books I've been reading lately, the characters are total strangers. There weren't a lot of crazy twists and overall it felt pretty predictable. It was good, just not great.
Seeing as this is my first book review, allow me to suggest a couple of reads.
Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry - a book I read a week or two ago, involving the usual angsty romance, this time between two high school characters. Mental illness, stereotyping, and heartbreak were all a part of this book. I gave it 5 stars.
Hopeless by Colleen Hoover - Actually, anything by Colleen Hoover (Because Slammed is also excellent). But oh my lord, this book made me cry. Romance-y again, but not dirty this time, there were twists and unexpected discoveries in this book about a girl who lost a part of who she was a long time ago and works on rediscovering her past with pain and love in equal parts. I gave it 5 stars.
Driven series by K. Bromberg - If you liked 50 Shades, this series is 10,000 times better and way way way more heart-wrenching. Colton is the ultimate sexy yet successful bad boy race car driver with a temper and a sex drive that you can only dream of. But his history is so horrid, your heart breaks slowly and agonizingly for him as Rylee works so selflessly to fix him. I'd give it 6 stars if I could.
There are more, but I will save them for another time.
